Nothing But Greedy Businessmen In Haiti.
Posted by Shotta on 2/27/10 8:30 AM

I just recently came from Haiti couple days ago. I traveled throughout Port-au-Prince and the surrounding neighborhoods to see the results of the earthquake, I even experienced two earthquakes of 4.7 magnitude each.
Due to the fact that there wasn't any direct flight from the US to Haiti, I took a flight from the US to the Dominican Republic, and from there I bought a two-way bus ticket from Caribe Tour. It wasn't an exciting moment for me. The trip was long and boring.

I had a woman sitting behind me from Guadeloupe, she was speaking French all the way throughout the whole trip, she tought that she was the bomb! Although she had a french accent, I could tell easily tell that she was from the Low class who had a chance to live abroad, She was too show off!
I don't have much to say about the results of the earthquake in Hati, CNN has covered much of it, except it's different when you are actually in the country yourself.

I stayed in Hati for a week, that was enough! I did not want to spend not even one more day, especially after experienced two aftershock earthquakes of 4.7 magnitude.

After the 2nd one hit around 1:25 in the morning, I felt the whole place vibrating, I said that was enough of Haiti for me, I had to get out of dodge!
I didn't want to take the Caribe Tour bus back to the Dominican Republic, so I bought a one way plane ticket from Turqu'air for $150.00 to take me over the Dominican Republic.

After I called the office of Caribe Tour in Dominican Republic requesting a refund, they asked me where I was at, when I said that I was in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, they told me to go their office in Petion Ville.

So I went there to request a refund.

There I met a lady who was the branch manager, I explained to her that I no longer have any need for the return ticket from Prot-au-Prince to Santo Domingo, and that I would like a refund for this ticket.

They charged $40.00 US for one way, and $75.00 US for two-way. Therefore since I already used one way coming from the Dominican Republic to Haiti, I was only asking for $35.00 US refund for the other way which was supposed to take me from Haiti to Dominican Republic.

She said the ticket was non-refundable.

I explained to her that I read entirely the ticket, and there was nowhere it said"none refundable" the only thing it did say was " not transferrable".

She said that I could hold on to the ticket and could still use it for a year. I told her that I was never going to use this ticket anymore, especially after I don't intend on traveling by bus from Santo Domingo to Port-au-Prince ever again.

I told her that I would understand if she wanted to penalize me on the refund by taking away a fee off the price of the ticket, but I was still entitled for a refund.Obviously businessmen are so greedy down in Haiti, that once they collected payment on a transaction downthere, if you want to void this transaction, you will not get your money back!
She said that she was not going to give me a refund, so I ripped the ticket in front of her because I was so mad, and I told her it's because of the ways they conducted business in Haiti, that's why bad things are happening in Haiti, because of the greediness in the hearts of the haitian businessmen, this country has been cursed.

So I took a lost of $35.00 US for Caribe Tour. No more! I learned my lesson well!
