Pope Benedict XVI urged the international community to continue to help Haiti recover from recent natural disasters by offering concrete aid and support.
Hurricanes swept through Haiti last year, killing hundreds of people and leaving thousand more without home and other basic necessities.
Pope Benedict XVI said he hoped the solidarity that has been shown by the international community toward the Haitian people so far would continue.
Pope Benedict told the new ambassador, that he was concerned about the large numbers of Haitians who have left the country in order to support their families.
The Pope said he hoped that, despite the bureaucratic and administrative hurdles standing in the way, "quick solutions that would allow these families to live reunited would be found."
