Jeremie is the capital city of the department of Grand'Anse, in Haiti, with a population of about 50,000. It is located at 18¡ã40¡ä N 74¡ã7¡ä W (http://kvaleberg.com/extensions/mapsources/index.php?params=18_40_N_74_7_W_), and is almost isolated from the rest of the country.
In 1964, during the so-called Jeremie Vespers, several hundreds of people were massacred in Jeremie by the Haitian army and the Tonton Macoutes.
