Another song from Nana Mouskouri that reminds me so much of the years I grew up in Haiti, listening to her musics. Life at that time was filled with emotion, love, etc.. Nana Mouskouri - Comme Un Soleil: http://www.haitimusicvideo.com/index.php/2130 Nana mouskouri began singing jazz in nightclubs with a bias towards Ella Fitzgerald repertoire. In 1957, she recorded her first song, Fascination, in both Greek and English for Odeon/EMI Greece. By 1958 while still performing at the Zaki, she met Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis.
Hadjidakis was immensely impressed by Nana’s phenomenal voice and immediately offered to write songs for her. In 1959 Mouskouri performed Hadjidakis' Kapou Iparchi I Agapi Mou (co-written with poet Nikos Gatsos) at the inaugural Greek Song Festival. The song won first prize, and Mouskouri began to be noticed.

Great Kompa, memorable songs, important messages being communicated in the somgs, I just described the musical career of the group System band. System Band - Katel Music Video: http://www.haitimusicvideo.com/index.php/1050
When this song Katel became popular in Haiti, the de facto military government resigns at the request of the United States in September, which then sends in troops to occupy Haiti. This occupation is sanctioned by the United Nations.

As with any French song, this classic from Nana mouskouri vibe produces energetic and love. Nana Mouskouri - Mon Enfant: http://www.haitimusicvideo.com/index.php/2662 Mouskouri was encouraged by her friends to experiment with jazz music. She began singing with her friends' jazz group at night and they even managed to get a radio slot. However, when Mouskouri's Conservatory professor found out about Mouskouri's involvement with a genre of music that was not in keeping with her classical studies, he prevented her from sitting for her end-of-year exams. Mouskouri left the Conservatoire and began performing at the Zaki club in Athens.

More than 20 years later, listening to CAROLINE by Raymond Cajuste & Dionne Lamorthe is like listening to a newly released song on radio. CAROLINE - Raymond Cajuste & Dionne Lamorthe: http://www.haitimusicvideo.com/index.php/3084 Back in the 80's this song used to be the BREAKUP anthem. Along with quite a few other Haitian Creole slow and boleros, "Caroline" used to be among the most beautiful Creole balads to rock the airwaves. Radio stations used to blast it, especially on Sunday night.

This is a Flash back to Haiti history. This video was a celebration of the 26th anniversary of the Volontaire de la Securite Nationale (VSN) and the Tonton Macoute. This video was provide to us, thanks to Marie Toussaint. Some of the most popular faces were present at the time. We observed former President Jena-Claude Duvalier, his wife Michele and their children, Dr. Roger Lafontan, Mr. Jena-Marie Chanoine and other popular faces of the Duvalier regime. Watch the Video: HaitianTips.Com - As you can see for yourself, this was definitely an impressive force, dedicated to the regime. What do you think about the VSN in Haiti? What does it represent to you? Were you ever victimized by the VSN? Do you think that somehow, these people helped create an atmosphere of security in Haiti? System Band produced many hit songs that shock most people. It is amazing to see how talented the band was. System Band - Men Aveg La: http://www.haitimusicvideo.com/index.php/1915 Men Aveg La was the music of the time. At the time, the local homegrown Haitian hip hop movement was rising in popularity in Haiti and other Haitian communities. It is becoming more and more popular with Haitian youth, often communicating social and political topics as well as materialism. Compas as well as other popular local music beats are used frequently with urban sounds.
