Why Haiti Needs Kanaval Or Carnival

Why Haiti Needs Kanaval Or Carnival
Sunday February 14, 2010 08:59 AM ET

know this is unpopular, however, I believe that Haiti Kanaval or Carnival should not have been cancelled this year because of Haiti Earthquake.

What is the argument for a Haitian Kanaval (Carnival), specially after over 200,000 people passed away, many more Haitians injured, more than 1,000,000 having no place to stay. Also we can not even think about those who have lost everything: family members, property and more.

Any haitian would say YES to Kanaval for reasons mentioned in this article that i don't need to repeat.

i totally agree with this article.

plus, we have to keep in mind that not all of Haiti was damaged by the quake.

It's so depressing that one of the country gets hurt and the whole country stops.

Does it make any sense?

Haiti needs to get back on it's feet because obviously,
God isn't going to make a difference,
The US, France, Spain, England, Canada, whatever shit there is on earth won't have our back. We haitians that get stuck in the US and never go back need to raise up and go help!

I can only think of one word to describe the thought of people thinking about karnaval.

Insane. Please be real, Karnaval with this devastation.

No wonder why the entire world think we are 90% illetarate.

I really think its to soon to have kanaval in Haiti.

There are so many people still hurting after the earthquake.

Some Haitians still don't have any ideas what happened to their love ones. Maybe we can have a special kanaval in the summer.

Right now we are in the process of getting our lives together without our love ones who perished in this catastrophe.

Its definitely to soon for kanaval.

Based on this current situation in Haiti, how can anyone imagine the thought of having carnival this year, a month after this mega tragedy.

Having carnival is no where near a form of therapy.

We need to focus on much more important things such as rebuilding this beautiful country once named litte Hispaniola for its extreme beauty back then. Even as a child in the early 1980's there was still remained a little beauty there.

I remember going to Bicentenaire area, Champs de Mars and even to the MUPANAH.

Besides, where would you have a carnival?

In the rubbles and through the ruins?

Please get a grip of yourself and rethink things.

How would the International audience be looking at the whole scenery.

The things I was most proud to hear from the International community was : " Even through all these tragedies, the Haitians still remained strong and very resilient and very proud of themselves!"
How would they be looking the haitians in Haiti now if they would have a carnival one month after the tragedy.

If you would ask me, I would simply have one word to describe it: "Immoral" and I know that the international haitian community would feel very akward, especially when the whole world is watching us and giving a helping hand after such disaster.

I think the rest of the world would stop caring about the haitians in Haiti and leave them in their own issues.

It is insane that anyone can even THINK of Carnival at this Sad time, only four (4) weeks after the quake.

Every one of us has lost a loved one, how can you imagine yourself dancing in the street where there are still bodies unaccounted for.
